Streszczenia
The aim of this article is to attempt to answer the following question: Is the motto of the European Union, “United in Diversity”, given the number of the official languages, an advantage, or a disadvantage? In view of the fact that all the language versions of the EU law have the same legal force, every concerned citizen of the European Union can, as soon as possible, know what a particular legal act contains, how it applies to them. They can also contrast it against their national legal acts. However, the lack of one official language of the European Union (EU) can be seen as the main contributing cause to the inconsistencies and non-uniformity of the EU legal system. As a consequence, the EU law is implemented in different ways into the national law orders of the Member States, depending on the semantics of their national languages. A brief overview of the substance and genesis of the official language of the European Union, as well as the legal regulation thereof is necessary in order to understand the problems with legal interpretation of the European Union due to the equity of 24 official languages of the European Union.
