Children develop in individual ways and at varying rates – whether physically, spiritually, socially or emotionally, and language acquisition goes synchronously with cognitive and academic development. The subject of interest of the present paper are bilingualism and cognitive development of bilingual people presented through the optics of research since the pioneering studies conducted by J. Ronjat (1913) to the present times.
