Natasha Solomons—known for novels featuring female protagonists—in her comedy of assimilation, Mr Rosenblum’s List (2010), explores themes of grief and healing in a gastronomic and linguistic context. Set in post-World War II England, the novel follows a female Jewish immigrant from Germany who grapples with loss and finds solace through compulsive baking and cooking. After the deaths of her parents and brother in the Holocaust, unable to articulate her emotions verbally, the protagonist’s focus on food preparation becomes a means of non-verbal communication. This study bridges research that has focused on Jewish themes in the novel with another major motif in the story, food, by examining it within the context of literary food studies.
