In this chapter, I explore my personal journey of engaging in action research (AR) as a language teacher and educator in both Poland and the United States. Reflecting on the assertion by various scholars that research directly connected to second language teaching is scarce, I delve into the current state of teacher-conducted research and the ongoing struggle for its recognition in academic circles. Through an autoethnographic lens, I share insights from my AR projects in K-12 and higher education settings, highlighting the practical lessons learned and their impact on my teaching practice and scholarship. I discuss how AR has allowed me to bridge the gap between research and practice, making my investigations more meaningful for my students and me. By recounting specific AR studies, such as collaborative projects with English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) teacher-colleagues and integrating social-emotional learning (SEL) into language teacher preparation courses, I illustrate the transformative potential of AR for professional development. By sharing these stories and projects, I hope to inspire language educators to adopt AR as a tool for continuous improvement and advocacy for their well-being and success. I conclude this chapter with a call to action for the field of language education to embrace AR more fully in both practice and research publications, recognising its value in fostering a more inclusive and supportive academic environment.
