In 2018, there was a reform of higher education in Poland. One of the effects of this reform was the modification of the requirements for awarding the degree of habilitated doctor. The article deals with the current general requirements necessary to award the degree of habilitated doctor, excluding the issues discussed in the additional publication, and is devoted to specific conditions for awarding the habilitation. The article expresses the author’s views resulting from an analy-sis of the legal status, and of the views expressed in legal science and in judicial decisions. The article discusses such issues as: non-statutory criteria for granting habilitation, the importance of bibliometrics for the evaluation of habilitation achievements, the scope of scientific achieve-ments presented in the habilitation thesis, including the importance of a doctorate and scientific achievements before the doctorate, and limitations resulting from transitional provisions to the reform of higher education.

W 2018 r. dokonana została w Polsce reforma szkolnictwa wyższego. Jednym z efektów tej reformy była modyfikacja wymagań związanych z nadawaniem stopnia doktora habilitowanego. Artykuł traktuje o aktualnych ogólnych wymaganiach koniecznych do nadania stopnia doktora habilitowanego z wyłączeniem zagadnień omówionych w dodatkowej publikacji, a poświęconych szczególnym przesłankom nadania habilitacji. W publikacji wyrażono autorskie poglądy będące wynikiem analizy stanu prawnego, poglądów wyrażanych w nauce prawa oraz w orzecznictwie sądowym. W artykule omówiono takie zagadnienia, jak: pozaustawowe kryteria nadania habilitacji, znaczenie bibliometrii dla oceny osiągnięć habilitacyjnych, zakres dorobku naukowego przedstawianego w przewodzie habilitacyjnym, w tym znaczenie doktoratu i dorobku naukowego sprzed doktoratu oraz ograniczenia wynikające z przepisów przejściowych do reformy szkolnictwa wyższego.
